Evan Harris (1984-) enlisted in the United States Air Force in 2003. Following Basic Training and Technical School, Evan was stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana. He was deployed to both Diego Garcia and Guam, where he worked on instrument and flight control systems on B-52 Bombers. He was honorably discharged in 2013 and currently attends Louisiana State University in Shreveport. Evan reflects on the benefits and drawbacks of his military service.
Project Goals
The Veterans Empathy Project is an ongoing work in oral history focused on the military experience among U.S. soldiers and marines in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Its purpose is to bridge the gap in the United States today between veterans of foreign wars and civilians who never served in the military. Designed for scholarly research, it's meant to round out public understanding of military obligation today, in the past, and near future.
